In October of 2014, we updated the finishes in our kitchen after completing repairs from a water leak. Part of the work involved re-painting the kitchen area and re-staining existing cabinets that were previously finished in a golden oak color, changing them to a darker, more richer color. Because the oak cabinets were in very good condition, it was important for us to maintain a transparent finish rather than simply painting them with a solid color. To complicate matters, some of the cabinets were new and unfinished, so we were concerned that getting a uniform color on old & new cabinets would be a challenge, including an island cabinet that had old and new components mixed on the same unit.
From door samples obtained from a “big box” store, Manuel Lemos matched the desired colors perfectly using a gell-stain process. After his crew carefully cleaned and masked the entire kitchen, Manuel first stained new, unfinished components to a golden oak color that matched the old finish. He then re-stained all the cabinets to the new, darker color, achieving a uniform color throughout the kitchen. The finish was beautiful and matched our color samples perfectly. After the staining phase was completed, Manuel guided us in selecting paint colors for the walls and ceilings that would complement the new cabinet color. He convinced us to try something different to what we were thinking. We took his advice and couldn’t be happier with the final results. Manuel is truly a master at his trade!
From sample preparation to final clean-up, Manuel was very professional and diligent in keeping us well informed throughout the entire process. I was especially impressed with thoroughness of his prep work (hugely important) and appreciated the personal attention he gave towards ensuring that we were always completely satisfied.
